Q – When Shooting RAW, is the best way to obtain other formats (such as ProRes) from RAW files to use Blackmagic Da Vinci Resolve?

A - Correct.  You can use the BM Resolve “Lite” (free) version if you want to convert from RAW 4K to HD. You can also use this program as a free XAVC Reader. However, you will need to use the BM Resolve “Full” (paid) version if you want to convert from 4K to HD and above (i.e. 2K, 4K)

 

Q – Is using YoYotta not appropriate for freelance shooting operators?

A - YoYotta is a fully featured DIT application.  It all depends on whether the operators want a “Data Wrangling” (Backup only) or “DIT” (Backup, apply LUTs, create Dailies) service

 

Q - Only Sony Vegas can currently native edit with all XAVC formats?

A - Correct, Sony Vegas Pro V12 supports the Sony XAVC format

 

Q – What is the current editing situation for XAVC HD and XAVC4K for the other platforms?

 

AVID PC - Supported, with Avid Media Composer V6.5 plus Sony plug-in (XAVC HD) - http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/pdzk-ma2

Q – When are some of the other features (such as 2K) going to be released?

A - Sony has released the development roadmap for the F5 and F55, where they detail the features that will be released with future firmware revisions.
