Procam Take 2 London and Garden Studios were pleased to host the ‘Discover Virtual Production’ workshop for Women Behind the Camera and illuminatrix members at Garden Studios’ Virtual Production stage, allowing attendees the opportunity to get hands-on experience with the latest VP technologies.
The session was held on Saturday 4th September, led by Procam Take 2’s Saul Gittens (Cinematographer and Head of Training & Development), Garden Studios’ Mark Pilborough-Skinner (Virtual Production Supervisor) and Sam Kemp (Virtual Production Technician). Throughout the morning attendees took part in an interactive Virtual Production demo to gain an understanding of Unreal Engine, frustum, parallax, and the camera and lighting considerations that need to be made for VP.
By operating on an Easyrig Vario 5 and Matthews Doorway Dolly with an ARRI Alexa Mini LF and TLS Vega Primes, participants were able to observe the effects of lighting the Volume and see how the camera recognises where it is using the Mo-Sys tracking system.
In addition to the hands-on elements, Mark also led a behind-the-desk demonstration of the creative control that Virtual Production offers, allowing environments to be modified in real time to suit the needs of the shoot.
